Jadhav’s family is flying to Islamabad via the UAE. The UAE airliner EK–612 bringing Jadhav’s family was delayed by about 40 minutes, according to officials.
Kulbhushan Jadhav a former Indian Navy officer, was arrested by Pakistani officials on March 3, 2016, on suspicion of espionage and sabotage activities against the country.
The mother and wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav held a meeting with him at the Foreign Office under special permission granted by Pakistan on humanitarian basis.
The family’s meeting with Jadhav continued for 40 minutes, according to Foreign Office. Indian Deputy High Commissioner J P Singh was accompanying Jadhav family.
Jadhav’s mother and wife arrived in Islamabad today to meet him at Pakistan’s Foreign Office.The Foreign Office clarified that presence of Indian consulate official with the mother and wife of Kulbhushan does not mean it’s a ‘consular access’.
In May, following an appeal by India, the International Court of Justice asked Pakistan to hold off the execution of Jadhav till it reached its final verdict. Pakistan has submitted evidence against the spy and the case is expected to be heard again in January.
TV footage showed a convoy of around seven vehicles escorting Jadhav’s family in the city. A Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson said that Jadhav’s family spent more than half an hour at the Indian High Commission before the meeting.
Pakistan Foreign Office released pictures of Jadhav talking to his wife and mother from behind a glass screen. The communication between them was through a intercom device. The meeting has ended, the Foreign Office said. It lasted for 40 minutes.
Before the meeting, the security check of the family was performed.Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said more than once that the decision to allow Jadhav to meet his family was taken on “humanitarian grounds”. He made no reference to “consular access”.
