SHIMLA: Virbhadra Singh, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh has decided to contest the forthcoming assembly elections from Arki constituency of Solan district. Only last week he had declared his decision to contest from Theog constituency of Shimla district.
The change is learnt to have been effected consequent to his meeting with Congress high command at Delhi today. In the last elections he had contested from Shimla Rural while earlier he has been contesting from Rohru constituency. In his efforts to keep his flocks together he has been meeting the party high command repeatedly. In a recent development he was able to sideline in arch rival Sukhwinder Singh, the state party President.
83 year old Virbhadra Singh is the longest-serving Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. In the present assembly he has served as Chief Minister since 2012; he previously served as Chief Minister from 1983 to 1990, from 1993 to 1998 and from 2003 to 2007. He was an elected member of the Lok Sabha in 1962, 1967, 1972, 1980 and in 2009. He is a member of the Indian National Congress.His wife, Pratibha Singh, was also a Lok Sabha member from Mandi.
