NEW DELHI: Delhi’s recent diabolical violence has shaken the consciousness and mind of every concerned citizen of the world. It is being said that after 1984, the city has witnessed such brutal violence again after almost thirty years. Many types of comments and reactions are pouring in constantly not only from the prominent world organizations like the OIC (Organization of the Islamic Countries) and the United Nations, but America and other countries also. The UN Chief himself criticized it vehemently.
The irony is that this violence had erupted in the same day when the world’s most powerful person, Donald Trump was at his two days India visit to meet the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
It was a haunting visit in many sense. First, India did not get much from America as it was expected, but gave a lot of opportunities to others to criticize it on the world forums due to the communal riots in many parts of the capital city, Delhi.
For the last many days, all big newspapers and online portals have published innumerable editorials and articles on it. The one thing came prominently out all of these pieces that it was a pre-planned, well-conceived attack to put the city on fire by a certain group of people, who are plagued with hatred and animosity against a religious minority of India. They falsely claim that they are true nationalists. But in fact, such people, who spew venoms against the people of a particular religious community are the real enemies of this nation.
With more than 45 deaths and billions of worth properties destroyed, finally, the state and the central government have woken up from their killing apathy and slumber. It is a fact that if the government wishes, nobody can dare to take the law in his or her own hand. If such a cruel dance of hate and murder took place for complete three to four days, it shows that it was on the behest of the thuggish and criminal minds politicians.
We should reject all such beasts who satiate their thirst of power with the blood of the innocent civilians.
Mazhar Foundation India, with the financial aid of the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Languages (NCPUL) organized a two day seminar in Jamia Millia Islamia on the topic of the Urdu Novels in 21 Century: Changing Scenario. This seminar became meaningful in the light of the ongoing protest against the draconian laws, the CAA, NPR and NRC. The protests are already going on not only in Jamia Millia Islamia, but many other parts of the country also since the last 75 days uninterrupted, though the opponents of these protests resorted to violence and hate speeches against these peaceful protestors.
In that light, this literary seminar on the state of the 21 century Urdu novels holds its own unique importance and value. And the organizer, Prof. Kausar Mazhari deserves all praise for it. He brought the discussion alive that how in the world history, literature has played its vital role in bringing the revolutions and in the liberation of subjugated people. It was a meaningful effort to register the protest against all kinds of the oppressions and suppressions at present in India by a group of people or the state machinery.
Khalid Jawed, one of the prominent novelists of Urdu, spoke about the present situation in an eclectic way. He said that every person of our time is living as in a plagued settlement. There are no human values left in us.
Prof. Maula Bakhsh, a respected name in the Urdu criticism opined his views and said that every novelist of our time is as he or she is sitting in Shaheen Bagh to register his or her protest. He further said that the protestors might fade out into our memories after some time if the things improve or the government take back the law, but the novelist, poets and writers of other genres keep protesting through his or her writings throughout his or her life. We can’t deny the role of literature in our life, especially novels, which are called the mother of all genres
