NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday set November 13 as the date for hearing a large number of petitions seeking a review of the top court verdict that allowed entry of women of all ages in Sabarimala Temple.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice S K Kaul told lawyer Mathews J Nedumpara that it has already passed an order with regard to listing of petitions on November 13.
Meanwhile, 19 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a review of its order on Sabarimala. The bench had said that the review petitions could only be taken up after the Dussehra vacation
A five-judge constitution bench by a ratio of 4:1 had held that women of all age groups should be allowed entry inside Kerala’s Sabarimala Temple.
A Supreme Court decision to end a ban on women of menstruating age or between 10 and 50 years at the temple in Kerala has sparked violent demonstrations on the roads leading to the site.
Traditionalists have threatened women trying to get to the complex and have clashed with the police sent to enforce the top court’s ruling.
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has stressed that his administration is committed to implementing the top court order.IG S Sreejith, who offered prayers at the shrine early on Monday, said, “I am a devotee but also duty-bound.”
