STATUS OF GAUSHALA IN UTTAR PRADESH AND OTHER STATES OF THE COUNTRY

Sirohi is a small village having a biggest Gaushala in the country and have 1.25 lakh cows with a maintenance cost of Rs. 30 crore.

KANPUR: In the last five years 4% of cattle (gauvansh) decreases in the country. The Chief Minister also raised the questions about why older dairies were being closed while newer ones were being opened in the state.

In the first phase, a Gaushala each would open in each of the 14 major cities of the state. The idea is to provide shelter to cattle which are either abandoned by the owners often they stop milching or due to their inability to fed them.

He also issued directives or ground level assessment of 59 milk cooperatives in U.P. and issued order to close the existing voluntary retirement scheme under the dairy development department. Government of Haryana directed to open Gaushala in every District Jail.

In the first phase, Government a Gaushala would be open in each of the 6 major district jail in the state. Government of Punjab has decided to open Gaushala and also released the fund of Rs. 44 crore in all the 22 districts of the state.

In Rajasthan, Sirohi is a small village having a biggest Gaushala in the country and have 1.25 lakh cows with a maintenance cost of Rs. 30 crore.

Total beef production= 70 lakh ton Share of Gauvansh =3.29 lakh ton

Slaughtering of Gauvansh is not prohibited in following states of the country:

Kerala, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sikkim and Nagaland
