Slow Is Better: Satyendra

LUCKNOW: Everyone wants to win. And the common belief and practice is to go and play shots that of Sehwag. But is life a 20-20 match??? Think once, think twice, think thrice. However, one rarely finds the slow movers fumbling. Isn’t it?

If you feel that you can achieve your dreams in one year, shift it to two years. Not only will it be achieved easily, it will lessen the unnecessary stress on your mind and body. Such an achievement is longlasting as well.

But what we find around us? The advertisements showing ‘Loose 10 kgs of weight in 30 days’, ‘Learn English in 30 hours’, ‘Become fair in 15 days’ and blah blah blah. On one part, we have ample time to kill and on the contrary, we go haywire to achieve sooner and sooner. Little do we remember the famous old turtle and hare story.

The more energy you put initially the more likely you are to lose your energy and interest. You can’t win marathon with the pace of 100 meters race. Even the doctors opine that slow loss of weight is less bound to come back.

The investment you make may give you an annual return of 10%. But when you wait for it for next five years, you reap the benefits of compound interest making it more than 10%. What is more important is the goal i.e. winning. What we do is to pour our energy on the process in between. Hence, even if we attain the goal, we feel exhausted.

Just imagine of a situation. You go for a family trip to Shimla. You move by flight and finish the whole itinerary in 3 days. Most of your time went in travelling. You got those smiling photographs and hence it’s there in your album. But did you really enjoy the trip? Trips must be slow so that your body and mind can feel it. See the rising sun for atleast an hour and enjoy the breeze around. Move to the local markets and enjoy their local foods. But due to your mindset of achieving it fast, you lose to make the trip get into your veins.

It is not your or my fault. In fact, in today’s corporate phenomenon, slow is a curse. Patience is a bane.  So what happens is that we find single-day marriages happening, people reaching directly to grave yards and so on. No one has a time to share the sentiments of each other courtesy the tendency to go fast and faster.

On the contrary, sharpening the axe makes it easier to chop the trees. Running fast with a pebble in your shoes (you don’t stop to remove it from your shoes as you ‘assume’ that you value for time) may not help you to win the race. What you get as a freebie is a hurt leg.

We go fast and so we eat fast foods. Then we spend extra time and money to mitigate the side effects of these fast foods. So you lose family, you lose health. You lose money and time. You save nothing.

You want a car and go for the loan.  Voila, you are eligible for it. But what you end up is paying atleast half of the loan amount as an interest over a period of time. So, if you pay for a loan in four years and pay extra, another option is to save for four years and earn interest and then go for your dream car. Which option is better? It all depends upon your preferences and choices. But still, give it a thought.

Driving fast gives your car more wear and tear, and an additional risk of an accident. Cost wise you are at a loss. The resale value of the car goes down. And what you gain is an imaginary mental satisfaction.

So what’s the solution? Just take a small step. Consolidate it. Move and let it move on its own set pace. Don’t skip the target. It not only helps to minimize the mistakes but also gives you the time to bunk and enjoy a movie at the weekend.

Don’t forget to invite me there buddy, Ha Ha Ha!

Believe me, life is to enjoy and enjoyment is the best achievement.
