LUCKNOW: Priyanka Gandhi was cheered by thousands as she rode in an open modified truck here on Monday along with her brother and Congress President Rahul Gandhi on her first visit to Uttar Pradesh after becoming the Congress General Secretary East UP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
The eastern UP, Priyanka Gandhi’s area of responsibility has Modi’s constituency Varanasi. The region is also seen as a stronghold of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Hundreds of Congress workers ran alongside as Priyanka Gandhi, her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Jyotiraditya Scindia, state unit President Raj Babbar and several others stood on the roof of a truck.
Priyanka will spend three days in Lucknow meeting workers from more than 40 constituencies.The BJP won 73 of the 80 seats in the state in the last general election.
Posters of Priyanka Gandhi lined the streets of the state capital Lucknow,and hundreds of party supporters,accompanied by drummers,chanted her name as she emerged from the Amausi airport with her bro Rahul Gandhi.
Rose petals were showered and marigold garlands tossed towards the brother-sister as their cavalcade embarked on a long road show, from the airport to the party headquarters as the duo exchanged brief pleasantries with some members of the crowd.
Rahul Gandhi addressed enthusiastic party workers at the state Congress office. Priyanka Gandhi also interacted with the state unit leaders at the party office.
