SINGAPORE: PM Modi on Wednesday arrived in Singapore for a two-day visit, during which he will participate in a number of engagements.
PM Modi was given a warm welcome by members of the Indian community upon his arrival at the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore. PM Modi delivered the keynote address at the Singapore Fintech Summit.
During his address, the PM wooed global investors, assuring them that India was the best destination for tech, whiel also highlighting the technological progress achieved by India.
The Prime Miniter also held a bilateral meeting with US Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday.On bilateral issues, the two sides had brief discussions on trade related matters.
PM Modi said Indians when they come to the US not only bring their talent and capacity to innovate, capacity to excel but also they are imbued in democratic values.
PM Modi said that the mainstreaming of 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed in Pakistan should be a matter of serious concern not just to India and the US but to the international community.
PM Modi said India has generated more than 1.2 billion Aadhaar biometric identities in just a few years.PM Modi stressed that there was a great opportunity for USA in India in making defence equipment and setting up defence industry in India.
Pence acknowledged that India had made substantial progress economically as well as diplomatically in regional and international affairs, Gokhale said.
Briefing the reporters, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale later said it was a “very good” meeting.The defence sector was another area of cooperation between the two sides.
The two leaders had “productive discussion on all aspects of global strategic partnership based on growing convergence of interests on regional and global issues” on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit here, MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said..
