Petrol Costs Rs 84/Litre In Delhi, Rs 91.34/Litre In Mumbai

India is the third largest importer of crude oil and rising international oil prices are inflating domestic transport fuel costs in a strong demand environment.

NEW DELHI: Fuel prices continued to rise across India on Thursday as the petrol price was hiked by 14 paise and diesel by 21 paise per litre in Mumbai.

Petrol and diesel prices surged up to Rs 0.23 per litre on Thursday, showing no signs of respite to the common people.

While petrol has touched Rs 84 per litre in Delhi, diesel prices were pushed a little further to Rs 75.45 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol retailed at Rs 91.34 per litre and diesel at Rs 80.10 per litre.

In Kolkata, petrol is being sold at Rs 85.80 per litre and diesel at Rs 77.30 per litre. In Chennai, petrol and diesel rates increased to Rs 79.79 per litre and Rs 87.33 per litre respectively.

Prices of petrol and diesel are at record highs due to the rise in global crude oil prices and the weakening of the rupee against the dollar.

The Centre and many state governments have refused to cut tax levied on fuel. The Central government charges Rs 19.48 excise duty on petrol and Rs 15.33 on diesel.

The Fuel prices have been on the rise since August 16 after the rupee dipped to its lowest value against the US dollar.
