PADMAVATI BANAM PADUKONE

When the character of Jodha Bai, the very honour of Rajputs was dramatically played and distorted to hike the TRP, alas no voices were raised.

In the olden days swords of Rajputs used to be drawn only in the battlefields but it appears that with the lack of opportunities their swords were gathering rust and dust. And what could have been a more opportune time than to brandish them to stand by the honour of a historical woman character by tarnishing the image of another woman and a live character.

With a mission to muster the lost strength and make their presence felt, some slumbering groups appear to be getting united,  albeit for the time being.

Day in and day out one or the other entertainment channel is serving  TV serials demeaning gods and goddesses and pulling them down to the levels of “Saas Bahu” characters.

While in one serial Santoshi Ma is shown being tormented by sister goddesses challenging her powers as well as troubling her devotee,  in another serial our revered Shiv Shankar Bholenath is shown blessing someone with 5 wives.  Isn’t that a mockery of Hindu religion?.

The Hindu mythology is often brought to laughable levels not only within the country but also to a mocking position abroad. With the careless depiction they get a chance to mock at the Monkey God or Elephant God or the XYZ God of our mythology.   I wonder if any producer has ever attempted to play with the gods and gurus of other religions.

Unfortunately the all dominating viewership (womenfolks) of the soap operas tend to enjoy such depictions with glee. Little concerned for the women’s honour itself being brought at the stake of devotion they enjoy the portrayal of their hidden instincts.

Alas such Distortion of religious beliefs and facts on the chatter box could ignite any uproar. The so called historical films and serials too are also served with distorted facts. The disclaimer indeed saves them from being challenged as a work of fiction but can such Distortions be made permissible?

When the character of Jodha Bai, the very honour of Rajputs was dramatically played and distorted to hike the TRP, alas no voices were raised.

And when the bone of contention, the Ghumar dance itself is already surging up on the popularity charts of music channels, besides having long attracted millions of views on U-tube, the uproar on Padmavati appears to be only a prestige issue being flared to gain attention.

And in the name of saving a lost honour, each and every movement of Padukone is being stalked and attacked with prejudice.

With political parties trying to encash the issue, the agitation now appears to be losing its sheen.
