SHIMLA: More than 1.58 lac students from 5000 government and private schools of Himachal Pradesh participated in the state level painting competition organized by SJVN today at its Corporate Office Complex, Shimla.
Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur as chief guest of the occasion awarded winners of the competition. Organised in two categories viz juniors, from 4th to 6th standard, and seniors from 7th to 9th standard, the selected 100 students from schools all over the state had participated in ‘on the spot’ painting competition today.
In the junior category Anadi Jain, a class 5th student of Saint Edward School received first prize of Rs.20,000, while Vasvi Ghaumta, a class 6th student of DAV Saraswati Nagar, received second prize of Rs.15,000 and Sanchit a class 6th student of DAV Totu, received third prize of Rs.10,000.
In the seniors’ category Pranjal Chahar, a class 7th student of Pinegrove School received first prize of Rs.20,000, while Kanav, a class 9th student of DAV Totu received second prize of Rs.15,000 and Inderjeet Singh, a class 9th class student of Govt Senior Secondary school Nangron, received third prize of Rs.10,000. In addition 10 participants from each category received consolation prizes of Rs.5,000 each.
The best three paintings of the senior category students have been selected for the national level painting competition to be organised at New Delhi on the Energy Conservation Day.
In his welcome address Chairman & M. D. Nand Lal Sharma expressed his gratitude towards State Government for allocating Jhangi Thopan Hydro Electric Project to the company. He also congratulated all the participants who showcased their brilliant efforts during the Painting Competition.
In his speech, the Chief Minister of applauded the efforts of team SJVN in execution and operation of Hydro Power Projects. He appreciated the efforts of students, their parents & teachers in propagation of message of Energy Conservation. He insisted that younger generation can propagate the message of energy conservation far and wide, which will definitely lead to a better future.
Aimed at promoting energy conservation among the school students, the competition is being organised every year under the aegis of Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency since 2005.
Every year atleast one student of Himachal Pradesh selected under the competition has been participating in the national level competition and bagging an award. SJVN is the Nodal Agency for organizing this competition in Himachal Pradesh and the company has also been honoured with best Nodal Officer Award.
