Norway may invest in Hydropower development in Himachal Pradesh

SHIMLA: Ambassador of Norway in India Nils Ragnar Kamsvag discussed the possibilities of investment by Norway in the field of hydropower and tourism in Himachal Pradesh with the state Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur here today.

He said that Himachal Pradesh had vast potential of hydro power energy while Norway had latest technology in this sector and as such full hydro power potential of the state could be exploited.

The Chief Minister said that both India and Norway had cordial relations and it was essential to further strengthen the same. He said that Himachal had immense power potential estimated around 26,000 MW and the State Government was committed to exploit this potential by involving both public and private partners for growth of this sector.

Jai Ram Thakur said that the State would welcome investment from Norway in hydropower as well as renewable energy resources. He said that the Government would provide all possible help to the entrepreneurs from Norway for investing in the State.

Ambassador of Norway also apprised the Chief Minister of the latest technology being adopted by Norway in harnessing hydro energy and said that the country was third highest promoter of gas in the world.

He told that over 98 per cent of the energy requirements in Norway was being met through hydro power generation. He said that Norway was interested in investing in power as well as tourism sector in the State of Himachal Pradesh.
