Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his father, former party president Mulayam Singh Yadav, presented a united front at a rally in New Delhi today.
NEW DELHI: In an apparent setback to rebel Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav, his brother and patriarch Mulayam Singh on Sunday shared the stage with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and appealed party workers to make the latter win 2019 elections.
It was surprising after Mulayam Singh Yadav reached Jantar Mantar in the national capital on Sunday to address party workers after their cycle yatra.
Mulayam also urged the party workers not to indulge in corruption and asserted that the country, farmers and youth will be empowered only when the SP gets stronger.
Shivpal Yadav had formed the Samajwadi Secular Morcha on August 29, and invited all “neglected” leaders from his former party to join him. He also claimed that Mulayam Singh Yadav – his brother – will contest the 2019 elections on his party’s ticket.
Akhilesh had decided to go ahead with the cycle rally that started from Ghaziabad despite Delhi Police refusing permission, citing traffic and security issues.’
Akhilesh was more direct in his attack on the Narendra Modi government. He demanded that the government form a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the Rafale deal, saying the issue has now become global.
Demanding a caste census in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said, “Social justice in the state is possible only when there is a caste census.”
He alleged that hospitals in the state treat patients based on their cast and, the police take action after determining the caste of the complainants.
