MP Election 2018: Congress Plays Soft-Hindutva Card

BHOPAL: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress would battle it out for dominance in the 230-seat Assembly in the state.

The assembly election this time is very crucial for both the Congress and BJP. The parties know the outcome will have a bearing on the 2019 elections.

Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram will all head into Assembly elections which will be held between November 12 and December 7.

The Congress on Saturday released its manifesto for November 28 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP, under the leadership of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has been in power in the state for the last three consecutive terms.

The manifesto was released in Bhopal on Saturday in the presence of Congress state unit president Kamal Nath, party’s state campaign committee chief Jyotiraditya Scindia and former CM Digvijaya Singh.

The Congress has promised to build many more cow sanctuaries and provide grants for their upkeep and maintenance in a BJP-ruled state.

The Congress manifesto promises to develop the ‘Ram path’ – a mythical route taken by Lord Ram during his 14 years of exile. The Ram Path Gaman will be built from Chitrakoot within the state boundary.

The Congress manifesto focuses on agriculture with a promise to waive farm loans up to Rs 2 lakh, halve farmers’ electricity dues and bonus on 17 agriculture commodities.

The party has promised that if it is voted to power in Madhya Pradesh, the RSS shakhas would not be allowed in government buildings and premises.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday took a dig at the main opposition party of the state. While addressing an election rally in Anuppur, Chouhan said, “Congress released its election manifesto, they only release manifestos but never fulfil them.”

According to C-voter’s prediction from November 2018, the Congress will get 118 seats while the BJP will get 106 seats.

The BJP will have to rely on the prime minister’s campaign to tide over the strong anti-incumbency sentiment. The difference in the vote share between the two parties is also extremely small, with the Congress expected to get 42.3 percent votes and the BJP expected to get 41.5 percent of the vote share.
