Vertical Success versus Horizontal Success

Please come – You are welcome.

LUCKNOW: I see that you are full of excitement and your position is like a person in front of whom, the biggest treasure of the world is going to appear. How good you feel at that time when someone is going to tell you how you can obtain hundred percent marks in your upcoming examination. When I first came to know this secret, my condition was worse than you, and for several hours only the sound of the excitement in my ears was resonating. I am sure that in that time if someone asked me my name, I did not even remember it.

By then, I had kept listening throughout my life that if we want to succeed in life, the education given in schools is its only means. Occasionally I used to have thoughts in my mind even if we could attain success by attaining schooling, why our teachers were not successful in life, who were more qualified and well-educated than the students,? Why did they say to the students repeatedly that the students must take tuitions from them which they certainly would not teach without money? I did not understand as to why the respected Principal of our school, who was certainly highly educated and had received doctorate by successful research in his own subject, used to be so nervous in front of the very little educated and rather, rustic manager who was not even able even to keep place his points in front of others simply and why our respected Principal had to sweat on his forehead in front of the manager, a person lower than even an average.

Friend, I did not even understand why a person with his post-graduate degree in first class, was an ordinary employee of an illiterate businessman and maintaining his accounts.  I did not even understand that the unimaginable business of legendary surgeon Dr. Shyamal Mitra who used to take heavy professional fees for every operation, was his achievement or his problem. I often used to think that what is the meaning of money for a person who has made himself a 24-hour money making machine and earned a lot, but does not have even time to spend it. And my friend, for me it was beyond my understanding as to how the profitability of Dr. Shyamal Mitra who had earned sky touching heap of money, went to below even less than zero in a fraction of a second when he got his right thumb cut in an accident?

We were taught only and only in our school and even at home that if we did not pass out exams with good marks and if hard work was not done like animals, our failure is certain. But no one even told me as to why the Manager of our school, who was also the owner of that school, was much more rich and successful despite his negligible education and lesser hard work in comparison to our respected and much more educated and hard worker our respected Principal and the teachers of the school? Nobody told me as to why far more educated and qualified accountant than his businessman employer was dependant on the meager salary received from his illiterate employer for his and family’s survival? I tried to know a lot, but no one told me as to why the success of Dr. Shyamal Mitra, who touched the peak of success, disappeared in a moment?

Somewhere, there is something ‘missing.’ There is some link that is not visible and not allowing the two ends of the chain to join. Something like this is what we all call ‘magic.’

When we grew up a little bit, we were told that God has given the same amount of time to all creatures as well, but we all work hard to develop our own capacities in different areas and at different levels, and that is why we get the results success-failure in the ratio of our own capabilities.

Just remember, in the fifth part of the book “Investment at Higher Rate and Their Options,” I told you the following in relation to income:

“Time X Qualification/ skill = earnings”

To understand this better, see the following example about one-day income –

Time Job/Profession   Ability to earn per hour Total income
10 Hours Labour Rs. 20/- Rs. 200/-
10 Hours Clerk Rs. 30/- Rs. 300/-
10 Hours Professor Rs. 5000/- Rs. 50,000/-
10 Hours Doctor Rs. 10,000/- Rs. 1,00,000/-
10 Hours Lawyer Rs. 50,000/- Rs. 5,00,000/-

You will say that when I have already told you these things, why am I repeating them? My friend, I am keeping them in front of you again because there is a secret that will now be revealed in the midst of these layers.
