Indian Journalist Ravish Kumar Wins ‘Asia’s Nobel’ Ramon Magsaysay Award 2019

Indian journalist Ravish Kumar has been awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award 2019 “for harnessing journalism to give voice to the voiceless”.

NEW DELHI: NDTV  journalist Ravish Kumar has won the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award 2019. Popularly known as ‘Asia’s Nobel Prize’, it is among the highest honours in the region.He is among five individuals who were declared winners of the award.

Kumar interacts easily with the poor, travels extensively, and uses social media to stay in touch with the audience, generating from them the stories for the programme.

NDTV anchor Ravish Kumar has won the honour for his news show,Prime Time, which “deals with real-life, under-reported problems of ordinary people”.

Ravish Kumar, 44, who is NDTV India’s senior executive editor is one of India’s most influential TV journalists, the award citation said.TV anchor Ravish Kumar started his career in 1996 at an age of 24.

He hosts and delivers news related to politics and society of India.The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Manila on September 9, 2019.Ravish has remained consistent in his effort to preserve and widen the space for a critical, socially responsible media.

The Magsaysay Award winners will each receive a certificate, a medallion bearing the image of the late Filipino leader Ramon Magsaysay, and a cash prize.
