Himachal Rains Claim 8 Lives, High Alert In Kullu

Himachal Pradesh has been receiving heavy rains for the last three days and according to the advisory of the Meteorological department, it is likely to continue for another two days.

SHIMLA: The Met Office has forecast heavy rains and snowfall in the upper hills of Himachal Pradesh on Monday. Water level has also risen in dams and rivers.

The southwest monsoon has caused heavy to extremely heavy rains, causing landslides in some areas and blocking the highways.

Heavy rains lashed several areas of Himachal Pradesh on Monday with the weatherman issuing “high alert” for Kullu. Deputy Commissioner Yunus warned the public not to go near rivers and nullahs as flood-like situation prevailed.

Eight people were killed and hundreds, including school students, remained stranded across Himachal Pradesh on Monday after incessant rainfall.

The water level in Beas is increasing due to incessant rains in the catchment areas.In Kangra, the Larji dam gates in Beas river are being opened.

All government and private schools in Shimla, Sirmaur, Kangra, Kullu, Chamba, Mandi, Kinnaur, Solan and Hamirpur districts have been directed to remain closed as a precautionary measure.

Rohtang Pass received four feet of fresh snow on Sunday, and twenty people had to be rescued, officials informed.In Chamba district, the Ravi river was flowing at the danger mark and people were evacuated from low-lying areas.

Heavy landslides hit vehicular movement on the Chandigarh-Manali highway beyond Mandi town and on the Pathankot-Chamba highway.

Over 800 people, comprising tourists and locals, have been rescued from various places in and around Lahaul Valley in Lahaul-Spiti district.

The Indian Air Force has recused 21 people stranded on islets in the swollen Beas river in Himachal Pradesh over the last two days.
