SHIMLA: After successfully launching electric vehicles on Manali Rohtang route, the state transport Corporation has now launched electric taxies in public transport network of Shimla city and the fleet of electric taxies and vehicles will be further strengthened in the State, told Transport Minister Gobind Singh Thakur here today.
He said that electric taxies inducted three days back in the city had successfully covered 275 kilometers on the very first day on the identified routes.
Himachal Pradesh is the first State in Country which has been operating environment friendly taxies on pilot basis. The Government is actively considering to increase the fleet of electric vehicles in near future, after successful trial of these vehicles on roads in different parts of the State.
The Minister said that all the taxies inducted in Shimla city were operational and plying smoothly providing pollution free service to commuters in the city. It may be noted that HRTC had commenced operating electric bus services in and around Kullu Manali areas on trial basis after the observations of National Green Tribunal.
