Happy Gandhi Jayanti 2018: India Celebrates Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Birth Anniversary

Gandhi Jayanti, a birthday anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi is also celebrated as the International Peace Day all across the world.

NEW DELHI: India and the world is celebrating 150th birth anniversary of ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi.The government has announced a two-year celebration to mark the 150th anniversary of Gandhi.

The birthday of the Mahatma Gandhi is celebrated in India every year by the name Gandhi Jayanti or Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.It falls yearly on 2nd of October when there is a gazetted holiday all over the India.

In China, school students recite Mahatma Gandhi’s popular quotes in Chaoyang Park in central Beijing, to commemorate his 150th birth anniversary.

On second of October a great person Mahatma Gandhi was born in the year 1869 at Porbandar in the Gujarat to the Karamchand Gandhi and Putlibai.

Mahatma Gandhi is also known as Bapu in India for his unforgettable contributions and struggle for the freedom of Indian. October 2 is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti in India and as the International Day of non-violence worldwide.

The United Nations General Assembly announced on 15 June 2007 that October 2 will be celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.

People celebrate Gandhi Jayanti by offering prayers and participating in services in the memory pf Mahatma Gandhi.The Twitter account for the Nobel Prize also praised Gandhi, paying homage to how many times he was nominated.

Several places in India hold commemorative activities and cultural events to celebrate Bapu’s life and remember his greatness.

Several people visit prominent places associated with Mahatma Gandhi on this day. Raj Ghat in Delhi, Mani Bhavan in Mumbai and Sevagram Ashram in Wardha are popular in particular.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu Tuesday paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary at Raj Ghat.

They led a string of leaders in paying respects, including BJP veteran L K Advani, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi,and Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres who is in India, also paid tribute to Gandhi this morning.The United Nations also celebrates October 2 as the International Day of Non-Violence to honour Gandhi’s belief in peace and non-violence.

Renowned sand artiste from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Sudarsan Pattnaik paid sand art tribute to Bapu on Twitter. He wrote: “The clean India, Green India ideology of Father of the Nation.
