Governor Of Arunachal Pradesh Inaugurates Tawang Maitree Diwas

ITANAGAR: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) inaugurated the Tawang Maitree Diwas, the 10th  festival of friendship and bonhomie between the Indian Army and people of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly Tawang at Tawang on 28th November 2018. Accompanied by First Lady Smt Neelam Misra, Governor with appreciation witnessed the programme which a twitting mosaic of heroic activities put up by the soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces from across the country.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that Tawang Maitree Diwas has laid a strong foundation in building good relationship between the armed forces and the civilian population. He paid tribute to Late Dorjee Khandu, who initiated this unique programme for cementing the trust between Indian Army and local people our the Frontier District, Tawang.

Impressed by the cultural and martial display by the armed forces personnel and joyouscultural presentation by the school and college students,  the Governor complimented the Army and District administration for the magnificent show put up by them. Such joint efforts promote sense of security amongst the civil population and also reinforce the trust between the people and security forces, the Governor said. He wished that the Tawang Maitree Diwas continues to be celebrated regularly for promoting friendship and cooperation in the District.

The Governor informed that till now the Maitree Diwas was been finacialy supported by the family of Shri Pema Khandu. From next year onward the Festival will be organised officially by the State Government and National and international tourist will be invited to participate in it, he underscored.

The Governor cited the Commander, his Headquarters and the troops of facilitated 190 Mountain Brigade for their dedication, empathy and humanism towards the people of the State.

The Governor said that under the political leadership of our popular Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi ji and our dynamic Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu ji in the State, the pace of development, security and progress are surging ahead. Now India has changed and now it is not at the same level and spot as it was in 1962. He also recollected the contributions of Major Bob Khathing of the Indian Army who liberated Tawang from the erstwhile Feudal Lords from Lhasa.

Appreciating the State Government under the Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu for conducting ‘Sarkar Aap Ke Dwar’, the Governor said that State Government is trying its best to address the challenges of the people. The Governor assured the people of Tawang to pursue the issue of Tawang-Lumla- Guwahati road through Bhutan with the concerned minister for the welfare of the people of Tawang.

The Governor also recalled the contribution of the Arunachali soldier towards the National security. Recalling the valour of Havaldar Hangpang Dada, Ashoka Chakra winner (Posthumous), the Governor urged upon the youth of the State to join the armed forces and strengthen the Indian security forces. He also lauded the “Pay Back to Society Group’ mission in which 27 officers from the State are going around the district schools and colleges motivating our youth..

The Governor called upon the armed forces stationed in the State to motivate and train the young boys and girls so as to enable them to join the Indian Armed Forces.

Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu and General Officer Commanding 4 Corps Lt. General GS Sangha also spoke on the occasion.
