Government of Himachal Pradesh Allocates 780 MW Jangi–Thopan-Powari Hydro Electric Project to SJVN

SHIMLA: Government of Himachal Pradesh has  allocated the 780 MW Jangi-Thopan- Powari Hydro Electric Project in District Kinnaur to public sector SJVN Limited. In the letter of allotment issued by the Directorate of Energy, Government of Himachal Pradesh, the allotment of project is on Build, Own, Operate & Transfer  (BOOT)  basis for a period of 70 years.

Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director thanked Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh,  Jai Ram Thakur and State Government for reposing confidence in SJVN. He assured that, SJVN will complete this project within a time bound manner and will contribute significantly in overall development of Project Affected Area. He further said that SJVN has necessary infrastructure in the area and this will be a key factor for completing this project on fast track.

He further said that the current installed generation capacity of SJVN is 2003.2 MW (comprising of 1912 MW Hydro, 85.6 MW Wind and 5.6 MW Solar Power). He further added that, other than this project SJVN is in the process of implementing various projects, which are in different stages of development, which on completion will add an additional 4018 MW of capacity. Projects with a potential of 1572 MW generation capacity are under construction, 1848 MW under Pre-Construction & Investment Approval and 598 MW capacity is in the Investigation stage. SJVN is heading towards an unprecedented growth trajectory and the Company has mammoth projects of International repute in its kitty. SJVN has envisaged Internal Growth Targets, of an installed capacity of 5000 MW by 2022-23, target of 12000 MW by 2030 and 25000 MW by year 2040.

Sharma told that Hydro Power is the core strength of SJVN and the Company has the distinction of implementing India’s largest 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh, which is down stream of this project.  Besides, executing projects in Himachal Pradesh, SJVN is executing hydro projects in Nepal, Bhutan and Uttarakhand.  SJVN has also forayed into the field of Renewable Energy, Power Transmission and Thermal generation as well.
