Former President Pranab Mukherjee In Nagpur; To Attend RSS’s Third Year Training Programme Tomorrow

NAGPUR: Former President Pranab Mukherjee is slated to address the valedictory function of the RSS’s third-year officers’ training camp at its headquarters in Reshimbagh on Thursday.

According to sources, he will stay for two nights at the governor house before leaving for the national capital on Friday noon.

This isn’t the first time the former president will meet with the RSS head Mohan Bhagwat; they have met on a few occasions since Mukherjee’s retirement.’

Mukherjee, who has been critical of the RSS as a Congress leader, will address its activists in Nagpur on Thursday. This will be his first speech from the RSS platform.

Around 700 swayamsevaks from places across the country will participate in the camp, also known as the Sangh training class.

A group of RSS workers, who were seen handing bouquets, welcomed the former president soon after he landed in Nagpur.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh urged the former president not to attend the RSS event while former finance minister P Chidambaram requested him to point out RSS’s wrong political ideologies during his speech.

The comments come after rumours of Sharmishta Mukherjee joining the BJP surfaced, which were dismissed by her.

She said she would rather leave politics than quit the Congress. Sharmistha Mukherjee, who is president of Mahila Congress as well as in-charge of the communication department of Delhi unit, had joined the party in 2014.
