Fodder Scam Verdict : Lalu Prasad Convicted, Jagannath Mishra Acquitted

A special CBI court holds RJD chief Lalu Prasad guilty in a fodder scam case. The punishment will be pronoucned on January 3, 2018.

RANCHI:  A special CBI court in Ranchi gave its verdict today in a fodder scam case in which former Bihar chief minister Lalu Yadav is an accused. He has been found guilty and was taken into custody soon after the verdict.

Lalu Prasad, the chief of RJD, and other convicts were taken into custody immediately after the pronouncement of the verdict.The case pertains to alleged fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Deoghar Treasury between 1991 and 1994.

Lalu Yadav is posting a series of tweets after his conviction in the fodder scam case.In 1997, Lalu Prasad was charged under sections of the IPC for forgery, criminal conspiracy and under the Prevention of Corruption Act, in connection with the fodder scam.

Lalu was arrested and lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi. He was sentenced to five years in jail, and disqualified as an MP.Lalu, who has been active in politics for over four decades.

Rabri Devi served as CM of the state for three terms between 1997 and 2005. Tejashwi held the post of deputy chief minister until recently when the RJD broke alliance with JD(U) in the state. Tej Pratap was health minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet till July this year.

A charge sheet was filed against 38 persons on October 27, 1997. Eleven of them died and three turned approvers while two other accused confessed and were convicted in 2006-07, a CBI official said.

Lalu Prasad Yadav posts series of tweets right after being convicted in the fodder scam. Writes, “A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes. ….But still prevails…In the end though.”

RJD supporters shout slogans and pledge to keep fighting for “justice” as Lalu Prasad Yadav comes out of the courtroom after being convicted in one of the five fodder scam cases.
