(In the past article, we knew about how to plan your day at your workplace. From today, for the next few articles, we will learn about prioritisation.)

Prioritisation – The art of positive discrimination

NOIDA: Everybody wants a winning strategy in life, but gets overwhelmed with the number of tasks to be completed, and finds himself unable to attend all the tasks. Finding time for too many things is a big challenge for everyone, be it employers, employees, students, housewife or businessmen, etc. Everybody complains that there are never enough hours in the day to get all the things done.

Here I want to tell you that essence of time management is ‘prioritising’.

Remember, time management is not for making your life harder. You don’t need to be a “workaholic” just because you decide to manage your time properly. Rather it is to help you work smarter and to accomplish your works more easily. If you learn to discriminate, which tasks need to be done, when to be done and by whom to be done, you can move very fast towards your goals. This is the reason, why I call ‘prioritisation’ an art of positive discrimination.

If you learn to discriminate, which tasks need to be done, when to be done and by whom to be done, you can move very fast towards your goals.

A good prioritisation system essentially includes three steps:-

  1. A written To-Do list, containing all the tasks to be done, sooner or later;

    1.  Prioritisation of the different tasks having regard to their importance or urgency; and your energy levels; and

      1.Deciding, whether any particular task is to be done by self; or to be delegated to anybody else; or to be outsourced.

Each of these three steps has its own importance and you cannot afford to miss out any of these steps. I personally feel and want to assure you that if you learn & practise these three steps, you can take liberties with any or all the other time management techniques.

Every minute spent in planning will increase your productivity and you will save lot of time while executing your plans, so that you may get more & more time for the things you want to do, as per your own choices.

(From the next article, I will start discussing about how to prepare the To-Do List and how to assign priority to the tasks at hand. Believe me, you will learn something new apart from the old school of thought of according priority according to importance & urgency. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
