(In the past article, we knew about the power of GOPTA for students. Today, we will see how temporary setbacks are not the read dead ends in life.)
Temporary setbacks are not dead ends
You are in pursuit of big success and we all know that big success is not going to come to you smoothly. It will pose some obstacles on the way as nothing is smooth in life.
Obstacles & temporary setbacks are quite natural to come to you in the form of lower marks or failure in the entrance examinations or not getting stream/ college of choice etc.; still, you have to remember that the life does not stop with temporary setbacks. Look back at your life and you will find that on various occasions, when you faced temporary setbacks, you had thought that it is end of the life; but it wasn’t. Sometimes, even setbacks bring you some hidden opportunities.
When you face any setback, first look for the reasons. What were the causes blocking your progress? Identify your biggest obstacle which is holding you back so far. You will find that most of the reasons are internal reasons like poor self-esteem, poor motivational level, blaming others for your failures etc. Remember, once you start asking question to yourself as to what is inside you, which is holding you back; the answers will start flowing like anything.
I would reiterate that never lose sight of your goals and tap power of GOPTA in overcoming each and every individual obstacle, without losing motivation. Ask the question, which is the single most threatening obstacle, conquering which may benefit you most. In one of my workshops, a student shared that he is unable to pursue higher studies as his parents are not in a position to afford the fees. I asked him whether he believes that he would do good at his higher studies and finance is the only problem. He answered in affirmative. Then I asked why he is not taking the education loan. These days, banks offer you education loans, which you have to pay after you complete your studies and get the job. He got satisfied with the answer and got enthusiastic. The problem was in his perspective. He was looking at the obstacle only, not on the possible solutions available.
Henry Ford has rightly put it as, “Obstacles are those frightful things you see, when you take your eyes off your goal.
Remember, successful people always think about solutions, while unsuccessful people keep on blaming the circumstances or luck and never want to come out of their comfort zone. They lack focus and always try to find excuses for failure. They will always say that right opportunities did not come to them; environment was not favourable; they were not lucky enough as others; their parents were not that much rich to afford their higher education, etc.
Be assured, until you leave making excuses, you are not going to succeed. The opportunities will come and go, untapped.
(In some of the next articles, I will specially keep on focusing on students, as to how they can become fearless and dream big. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
