(In the past article, we knew about the importance of inculcating the positive attitude since childhood. Today, we will know the importance of becoming a progressive person.
Be progressive – always seek new horizons
Continuous progress towards our dreams and touching new heights of success is the desire of most of us. Everybody wants to see new horizons of success in his life. You should always keep on reviewing your goals as well as your progress. It will help you in observing whether you are really progressing or facing stagnation. I take some examples here to overcome stagnation having progressive attitude.
Kapil Sharma – Kapil Sharma was doing stand-up comedy at different TV shows. After 4-5 years, there happened to be stagnation in his progress. There had to be a new level. He started doing stand-up comedy at international levels. Again, there was some stagnation in his progress. He had more potential than he was performing. Again, there was a need of a new level. He decided to launch his own TV show ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’, which fetched him new heights of popularity. After one year or so, again there was stagnation. There had to be a new level. He signed a film and got appreciation from critics.
Priyanka Chopra – Priyanka Chopra started her film career with title of Miss World in her bag. But title alone is not of much use, if you don’t possess talent. She proved her talent and went on to become one of the most successful celebrities of Bollywood commercial films. But the roles were more or less similar. There had to be a new level. She did ‘Mary Kom’, where she got new heights of appreciation from the critics and media. She must have enjoyed inner satisfaction, as an artist always wants to perform better and better. Again, there had to be a new level. She was offered a role in Hollywood serial “Quantico”, and she got appreciation. Now she is getting offers to act in Hollywood movies.
Game of cricket – You play cricket in your childhood with a rubber or plastic ball; then with cork ball; and then with leather ball. First you play in your own home; then in your lane; then in a small ground; then on a big ground, on real pitch. If a player is very good in technique but has never taken heavy bat in his hands and has never faced leather balls on real pitches in the ground, can he go up in the ladder? If he does not start to play with more competitive teams, he will not grow and he will not get noticed.
You always have to upgrade yourself to next higher level by learning newer skills and developing positive attitude. Remember, if you are not moving in life, you are lagging behind, as others are moving.
Use law of averages to your favour
Read the biographies of successful people. When you look behind the big success stories in any given field, whether it is business or sport or any profession, you will observe that most successful people have made more attempts and had spent more time at any given task than the failures. That means that they know the law of averages and take advantage of the same for their favour. Imagine, a basketball player misses about 30% of his attempts and another player misses only 10%. It is possible that first one may excel than other because during any single match, he is able to make twice more attempts than other, therefore, his net score will always be better and he will succeed.
As the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan said, “I’ve missed over 9,000 shots in my career. Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over again in life. And that is why I succeed.”
Remember, this is only the count of successful shots in basketball which matters, not the number of unsuccessful attempts. In football, it is the number of goals scored, not the number of unsuccessful attempts. In cricket, it is the number of runs scored, which goes into the record books, not the number of dot balls played.
Remember, more & more you try, you will get better results due to two reasons. One is that as per law of averages, higher number of attempts is bound to bring higher number of successful results. Second is that more you practice anything, better you become.
Even if you don’t see the fruitful result, you become better. For example, if you are practising playing football and you convert 2 or 3 attempts out of 10 in goals, imagine what will happen when you make 20 or 30 attempts. Not only your number of goals will be higher, the experience gained through unsuccessful attempts will also make you a better player. Now, it is up-to you, how you can tap power of GOPTA to take benefit of law of averages to your favour.
