(In the past article, we knew about how to take calculated risks while taking big decisions in life. Today, we will know about the importance of inculcating empowering values & habits. )

Empowering values & habits

Ratan Tata says, “apart from values and ethics which I have tried to live by, the legacy I would like to leave behind is a very simple one – that I have always stood up for what I consider to be the right thing, and I have tried to be as fair and equitable as I could be.”

If you feel that you are in control of your life, you will feel happier. If you find that you are in control of your decisions, which bring positive results in your life, you will be happier than the situations, where you find that your life is directly or indirectly controlled by somebody else. In the first situation, you will feel much confident in whatever you do and success will bring happiness to you. On the other hand, if you think that somebody else controls your important decisions, you will feel like a defeated person and will do nothing with confidence.

It is, therefore, very important to identify, who controls your decisions and take appropriate steps to change the situation, if you are not having control on your life.

If your values are positive and you believe that you are a good person, you will expect all good things to happen to you and this will empower you. If you expect good things to happen to you, you will be of positive thinking and will be future oriented and will look for positive things in other persons also. You must understand the philosophy behind following the good ethics and values, in whatever you do.

Money is the by-product of good work

You have to clearly understand that whatever you are doing, money is the bye product of good work, apart from success. If you seek money, you will run towards money; but if you choose to focus on doing good work, you will become a magnet of money, attracting money from all sides.

I take my own example. When I decided to start my own workshops, I searched for my real motive behind it. Numerous replies came from inside. On deep introspection, I found that I am doing it for bringing change in the mindset of future generation i.e. students. I am also doing it for bringing change in the mindset of present generation, by making them understand the concept of maintaining reasonable balance amongst different walks of life and moving from negatives to positives in each area. If I do this, money might be generated in due course but it is not the thing, on which I should focus. Though money is essential, as it creates options and is required for meeting day to day expenses, I should focus ONLY on good work. In this regard, my definition of good work is to present my workshop in such a manner that it really helps the audience to move in a positive direction and make their lives better than ever before. If I do this and money flows to me, it is good. If the money flows to me but I am not able to touch lives of my audience, it is not good money for me. The mindset is very important. Once I focus upon the contribution, I have to continuously push myself to get better and better and my quality keeps on improving. Once I am able to do it, money will automatically follow me from all directions. My popularity will increase; more workshops will be conducted; more books will be written; more books will be sold; and so on. That’s why I always say that money is the by-product of good work, apart from success.

Remember, in whatever profession or business you are, the motive is very important, which takes you to new heights in your profession or business.

(In the next article, we will touch a very crucial topic i.e. importance of remaining grateful in life. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned every Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
