KOLKATA: In the last 3 articles of this series, we understood how to convert the desires into S.M.A.R.T.E.R. goals. Today, we will know about how to further modify these S.M.A.R.T.E.R. to make them achievable.

Further modifications to finalise the SMARTER goals

After converting our desires into S.M.A.R.T.E.R. goals, let us do some fine tuning to make these goals achievable.

Write goal in the first tense – Write the goal using ‘I’. Your sub-conscious mind easily accepts the goals, which contain the word ‘I’ and start working upon them.

Write positively, what you want – State your goal in positive terms. Write what do you want. Don’t write what you don’t want. If you don’t want heart attack, don’t write that ‘I don’t want heart attack’. Instead make your goal to remain healthy. Sub-conscious mind and the universe do not listen the negative words. If you input, ‘I don’t want heart attack’; it will listen ‘I want heart attack’ and it will not be good for you. Hahaha.

Visualise you have already achieved the goal – Tap the power of your sub-conscious mind in reaching your goals by visualising yourself, as you have already achieved the goal. Write your goal as you have already fulfilled the wish and add the feeling you will have, when you achieve the goal. Imagine, if you get the desired level of income or desired marks in exam or desired fitness goal, how would you feel.

Visualise yourself having achieved the goal. If your goal is to buy a house, visualise yourself living in the house. If your goal is to buy a car, visualise yourself driving your dream car. If you want to become a speaker, visualise yourself delivering lectures/ seminars in front of huge gatherings, applauding you for your presentations. Thus, instead of just writing ‘I want to reduce my weight to 75 kgs.’, write ‘I am feeling energetic & enthusiastic and enjoying the benefits of good health at 75 kgs. of weight.’ Your clear visualisation will activate your sub-conscious mind and it will constantly trigger your motivation and your goal achieving speed will increase.

Add date to your goal – Don’t forget to add a date to your goal. ‘On 30th June, 2019, I am feeling energetic & enthusiastic and enjoying the benefits of good health at 75 kgs. of weight.’ This is a perfect SMARTER goal i.e. specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time bound, enjoyable and rewarding; and above all, simple and clear too.
