KOLKATA: In the last article, we saw that we wander here and there in pursuit of happiness; while we have to understand that the pursuit of happiness outside ourselves is an endless exercise.

There is unlimited happiness within

Once we understand that the pursuit of happiness outside ourselves is an endless exercise, the only solution is to find happiness from inside. In my workshops, I always lay emphasis upon balancing different walks of life. If you are able to balance different walks of your life, happiness will emerge from inside. You have all the power to be happy from inside.

I show an example to you right now. Remember any event from your past, which made you happy. What is the feeling? You again became happy for a moment. Is it not? How easy it is? Now remember any event from your past, which made you sad or angry from inside. What is the feeling? You again become sad or angry. Now you can understand that if you want happiness, you have to live with happy thoughts/ memories and get rid of unhappy memories or relations as early as possible and strive for aiming balance between different walks of life.

A building has pillars. If one or two pillars are short heighted, imagine what will happen to the building. Suppose a chariot is pulled by 5 horses. Imagine what will happen if one or two horses are too strong and others are too week. Life is like that. You have to maintain balance in different walks of life. Normally, some people are so engaged in their career and finance that they start ignoring their health and family. Some people start focussing on spiritual development and start neglecting their family and financial aspect, causing lots of problems for their family. What spirituality is this, due to which you are not able to maintain a balance in different walks of life? The smoothness of life is in maintaining a fair balance in different walks of life, though I am not talking about perfection. I am just talking about fair balance.

Your happiness and success are in your hands, as you can put conscious efforts in each walk of your life, as all the areas have a direct bearing on your happiness. And the first step towards achieving this balance is evaluation, as to where you find yourself at the scale of 1-10 in different areas of your life.

If you want to improve on your health, measure critical health parameters like weight, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, cholesterol levels, sugar levels etc., from where you can plan your desired levels of health. Similarly, in financial matters, you have to take stock of your current finances, so as to plan the future goals. Evaluate your financial worth today as per your financial statement, showing all the assets and liabilities, so as to assess the real situation. However, while evaluating yourself, be honest with yourself. This will go in a long way to set out realistic and achievable goals rather than unrealistic goals, which may lead in frustration, in case of non-achievement. Remember, under achievement of high goals is not a crime and you should always aim high; but while aiming high, optimal realism is also necessary.

(In the next article, we will touch a very important topic i.e. how to evaluate yourself in different walks of life. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
