Doctors Go On Nation-Wide Strike From Today

NEW DELHI: The Indian Medical Association has declared “All India Protest Day” on Friday against the incident and expressed solidarity with the striking doctors.

Resident Doctors’ Association of Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi held a protest over violence against doctors in Bengal.Protests were also held in Nagpur, Raipur and Hyderabad.

The organizations has started protesting against the attack on Kolkata-based residents and two intern doctors on 11th of this month.Thousands of patients in the national capital were hit hard after the doctors at AIIMS Delhi halted health services in support of Kolkata counterparts today.

Union Heath Minister Harsh Vardhan condemned the violence against doctors in Kolkata and urged patients and their attendants to exercise restraint.Doctors in the hospital will be shutting down OPD services but it will not affect the emergency services.

The protest by junior doctors against the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal entered the fourth day on Friday.Doctors in Jaipur wear black bands to work in solidarity with the striking doctors in Kolkata.

Mamata Banerjee visited the state-run SSKM hospital in Kolkata where she asked the agitating junior doctors, in turn, to get back to work. The doctors raised ”we want justice” slogans at the West Bengal Chief Minister.

On Friday, resident doctors across all medical colleges will refrain from attending out patient department or routine surgeries, but will remain available for emergency patients from 8 am until 5 pm.

Doctors, resident doctors and students of all medical colleges in Maharashtra will be up for the strike on 14th June. All the major organizations MARD , ASMI , IMA will participate in this agitation.
