In her address to the 72nd UN General Assembly session, Swaraj accused Pakistan of waging a war against India.
UNITED NATIONS: External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj addressed the 72nd UN General Assembly session in New York on Saturday. Prime Minister Modi congratulates Swaraj for “making India proud”.
Swaraj said the terrorist groups created by Pakistan is not only harming India, but also hurting its neighbours Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Relations between India and Pakistan have been tense in recent times, mainly over Kashmir, which is divided but claimed by both countries in full.
Swaraj urged the developed world to support other countries through technology transfer and Green Climate Financing.
Sushma Swaraj says all programmes being run by us are to empower the poor people like Digital India, Start Up India, Stand Up India.
Swaraj also called for “early reforms” in the United Nations Security Council and said it was an essential element to reform the international organisation itself.
Swaraj said while India is making IIMs and IITs, Pakistan continues to be a terror exporter and is creating outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad.
Swaraj said the two countries became independent within hours on the same day but years after that the two countries are known for different activities: India for knowledge and science, and Pakistan for terror and destruction. Swaraj suggested Pakistan to look within.
Swaraj had only one bilateral meeting with US secretary of state Rex Tillerson during which she raised the issue of terrorism and H-1B.
Swaraj was accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Syed Akbaruddin during the meeting.
