SHIMLA: To further the Swachh Bharat Mission of the Government of India and promote cleanliness drive till the village level, a unique initiative has been taken by the Central Power Sector PSUs like SJVN and the government of Himachal Pradesh to install as many as 68, 0000 dustbins at public places through out the state. A provision has been made to install atleast 1000 garbage bins in each of the 68 assembly constituencies of the state.
Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of the Power PSUs and the union Ministry of Power has been assigned installation of the garbage bins through out the state. The EESL has already been promoting energy efficiency drives throuout the country by public distribution and propagation of energy efficient electrical appliances for homes under its “UJALA” sceme and also installing solar street lights to conserve energy.
It is learnt from reliable sources that for the installation of 68000 dustbins, the required funds were being provided by the four Central Power PSUs namely SJVN Limited, NHPC Limited, NTPC Limited and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.
The bins are however being installed at the places earmarked by the local authorities under instructions of public representatives i. e the MLAs and MPs in their respective constituencies. Conspicuous by their presence in dazzling green and blue colours, these bins can be spotted at various public places in Shimla.
The EESL have already commenced installation of the bins at various places. The twin plastic garbage bins in green and blue colours are affixed on an iron stand grouted in the ground at the demarcated places. Efforts are being made to select public places in consultations with the nominated gram Pradhans and elected representatives, by the installing agency.
The project is likely to be completed within a period of one year.
