Central Govt Decides To Revoke Article 370, J&K And Ladakh To Be Separate Union Territories

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday announced that the government has moved to remove Article 370 in the Rajya Sabha.

Ahead of the announcement, the government had imposed Section 144 in several districts of the state.The announcement came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting of Union Cabinet morning.

Mobile Internet services have been suspended in the Kashmir Valley, officials said, adding that satellite phones are being provided to police officials and district magistrates.

Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and Sajad Lone – the three most prominent politicians from Jammu and Kashmir-were placed under house arrest last night.

Schools and colleges in Jammu, Kishtwar, Resai, Doda and Udhampur districts were also ordered to remain close on Monday, the officials said.Officials said restrictions on movement of people would come into force in Kashmir Valley at the crack of dawn.
