It is a science of looking after the issues like feeding and breeding of domestic animals and farm animals such as cattle, sheep, horses, hogs, etc. This finds a great scope as Indian agriculture system depends a lot on animal husbandry for their livelihood. The beekeeping, dog breeding, farming, horse breeding, pig farming, raising cattle, sheep farming, etc. provides meat, egg, milk, wool, etc and has a crucial impact on Indian economy.

While most of the institutes have their own selection mechanism, an All India Pre-Veterinary Test (AIPVT) is a famous entrance examination to this stream. The AIPVT has been replaced by NEET now to fill up 15% of the total number of seats in the veterinary colleges.
