BANGALORE: A large fire broke out and destroyed a three storey furniture warehouse in BTM Layout, Stage 2 in Bangalore on Sunday (December 17).

“The fire broke out at around 9:30 p.m. We saw smoke coming out through the windows and thus rushed to inform the police and call up the fire station,” said Wasim.

When Karnataka Fire Service first arrived, they found the warehouse engulfed in flames.  10 fire engines tried to put out the flames which were massive because of the wooden furniture stored in the warehouse. Smoke billowing from the warehouse spread around a kilometer. Even though the fire appeared to be massive, there were no casualties.

The building which covered a 15 acre land is believed to be owned by a Mr. Reddy and the furniture business, by Shakeel Pasha.  An estimate loss of 80 lakhs has been reported.

“The warehouse contained newly made furniture sets, which were ready to deliver but the fire destroyed it all,” said Afroz, the manager of the warehouse.

“No one was injured and there was no fire damage to the adjacent buildings,” said Mr. Bhutta.

The battle with the flames lasted over five hours as crews poured water onto the flames from all directions.

Locals say that the fire broke out due to a short circuit. However, the actual cause of the fire is under investigation.
