NEW DELHI: The Allahabad High Court has overturned a CBI court verdict in the sensational Aarushi Talwar murder case, acquitting her dentist parents Rajesh and Nupur Talwar of the charges of murdering their daughter and domestic help Hemraj.
The High Court says the CBI had failed to prove “guilt beyond reasonable doubt”. Nupur and Rajesh Talwar, were serving life imprisonment in Ghaziabad’s Dasna jail, a sentence awarded to the parents four years ago by a CBI court.
The CBI spokesperson Devpreet Singh said, “The Aarushi-Hemraj murder case is being discussed in public domain. To facilitate the general public, CBI has put all important court orders on its website cbi.nic.in.”
Aarushi was found with her throat slit in her bed, just days before she turned 14. At first, Hemraj, who was missing, was the main suspect, but the next day, his body was found on the roof of the apartment building where the Talwars lived. The investigation has been marked by a series of lapses including the mishandling of evidence and allowing reporters to access the crime scene when Hemraj’s corpse was found.
