(In the past article, we knew about how to identify your life purpose among various goals. Today, we will know something more about this and how to identify what legacy you would like to leave behind you.)
Be realistic at start
You should take care that your life purpose is realistic and does not contradict your other goals. If you are not realistic, you are planning to fail. For example, if I decide that I will guide at least 100 crores of people, it appears unrealistic. After some time, I will start losing my motivation, as I will not find myself to achieve that number. Though, if something miraculous happens and later I could somehow find that there is any method, through which I can reach more and more people, there is always an option to upwardly revise the goal, but at start, we should always be realistic.
Look for the earning opportunities in your life purpose
There is no doubt about it that you have to do something for your bread & butter. Once you find your main goal, you should identify the ways in which you can earn your bread & butter by doing this work, which is your life purpose or which you enjoy most. If you think that you can’t earn a good livelihood, you are mistaken. Look at Oprah Winfrey, who conducts world’s best talk shows. Look at sports personalities and the persons related with sports. Look at the famous writers, actors, etc. If you like cricket, that doesn’t mean that you should become a batsman or a bowler only. There are various associated fields, which you can join and excel. For example, look at Harsha Bhogle. My suggestion is that you should find out the work, which you enjoy most and then look for the best earning opportunities in that area.
Remember, in India, traditionally, a girl always has two choices, to become a career woman or to become a housewife; but if you are a boy, you don’t have a choice to become househusband. It is your responsibility to earn livelihood for your family.
Start loving your goals
You should fall in love with your goals. Unless you fall in love with your goals, you will neither get the belief that you can achieve it; nor you will commit yourself to take necessary actions with positive frame of mind in the direction of your goals. Have you ever read a success story of a man who did not love his goals, still achieved the same? The answer is a big ‘NO’. You have to be excited about what you are doing. If you are not excited about your dreams, who else will get?
Self-commitment means taking responsibility of your life and making yourself accountable for daily progress towards achieving your goals. Develop a discipline to do at least something daily towards achieving your goals and monitor your progress every night and chalk out the plan for the next day. Initially, it may seem a daunting task and little bit boring, but I assure you that within a week, you will start loving this exercise after seeing your progress towards achieving your goals.
When you are committed, whether it is in your weight loss program or in career or in relationships, you will focus on the solutions, not on problems. Without commitment, you will not have sufficient inner drive to come out of comfort zone.
Obituary of Alfred Nobel
You must have heard the name of Alfred Nobel. There is a very interesting story about the obituary of Alfred Nobel. Once, brother of Alfred Nobel died. When this news reached a newspaper; due to some confusion, they thought that Alfred Nobel himself has died. The newspaper wrote his obituary, which Alfred Nobel read in the newspaper himself. In this obituary, his primary accomplishment was mentioned as the ‘invention of gunpowder’, which was responsible for lots of bloodshed in numerous wars. This obituary shocked Alfred Nobel and he immediately started to work upon changing his legacy. He ensured that whenever his obituary is finally written, his legacy would be different. Today he is remembered for instituting the Nobel Prizes and giving his entire fortune for winners of Nobel Prizes. We all know that Nobel Prize is highest honour across the globe for contribution in the area of peace, literature, medicine, science, economics & chemistry.
Decide, what legacy would you like to leave behind you.
