KOLKATA: In the past articles, we have seen that our sub-conscious mind works like a GPS and we have to evaluate as to where we are in different walks of life as on date. Today, we will see how to evaluate yourself in different walks of life.
Evaluate current status in different areas of life
Look at your present life state and evaluate your present ranking in the following table on the scale of 1-10 for different aspects of life. (where 1 is for lowest and 10 is for highest). Pleeeeease, be honest to yourself. You are doing this exercise privately and you don’t have to reveal it to anybody else. It is just for YOU.
If you remain honest with yourself, this will go in a long way to set out realistic and achievable goals rather than unrealistic goals, which may lead in frustration, in case of non-achievement. Remember, under achievement of high goals is not a crime and you should always aim high; but while aiming high, optimal realism is also necessary.
Now write these on a piece of paper and give your present ranking and keep it with you for your records. It will be useful for you in later years of your life.
- Family and personal life __
- Health __
- Career & Finance __
- Personal fulfilment & enjoyment __
- Contribution __
You might find that all the areas of life are not on equal points.
Imagine, these are five pillars for the platform of your success. If these are not balanced, how success platform will get the sound footing. A building has pillars. If one or two pillars are short heighted, imagine what will happen to the building. Similarly, suppose a chariot is pulled by 5 horses. Imagine what will happen if one or two horses are too strong and others are too weak.
Life is like that. You have to maintain balance in different walks of life. Normally, some people are so engaged in their career and finance that they start ignoring their family and health. Some people start focussing on spiritual development and start neglecting their family and financial aspect, causing lots of problems for their family. The smoothness of life is in maintaining a reasonable balance in different walks of life, though I am not talking about perfection. I am just talking about fair balance.
However, you should have no reason to worry, if you don’t have any 8, 9 or 10 on any of the above parameters. Practically, nobody has a perfect balance. The real cause of worry is the huge imbalance in different areas of your lives, as per your current evaluation, which must be improved with positive efforts, so as to gain as much balance as possible.
I would further suggest that don’t do this exercise only once. You have to do it regularly for whole of your remaining life, every six months or at least once a year to examine that in which areas results are coming and which areas need more GOPTA. I guarantee you that if you regularly monitor your progress in this manner; you will definitely find your own recipe of success and will definitely achieve your dreams and strike more balance in life.
(In the next article, we will further develop this theory for your benefit and I will present before you a very powerful tool i.e. LIFE-FOCUS TRIANGLE. I believe that you are enjoying the journey towards the future of your dreams with me. If yes, please stay tuned every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday. Happy G.O.P.T.A.)
