BHOPAL: Kamal Nath took oath of office as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister at Bhopal’s Lal Parade ground today. Several senior Congress leaders including party president Rahul Gandhi and hundreds of party workers attended the function.
Kamal Nath said that the promise of farm loan waiver made by the Congress will be fulfilled.There will no Deputy Chief Minister post.
The nine-time Lok Sabha member from Chhindwara was Thursday night elected as the leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP).
Kamal Nath was born in Kanpur to an established business family, and has worked with three generations of Gandhis – Indira, Rajiv, Sonia, and Rahul.
Kamal Nath was first elected to Lok Sabha in 1980. He was Minister of Environment and Forests as also Textiles Minister in the P.V. Narasimha Rao government.
Several leaders from different parties attended the swearing-in function today. National Conference President Farooq Abdullah, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh and Mallikarjun Kharge, Andhra Pradesh CM & TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and other leaders attended the ceremony. Shivraj Singh Chauhan was also present in the function.
The Congress, which won 114 seats, has secured support of 121 MLAs, including SP (1) and BSP (2) legislators and four independents, to cross the majority mark of 116 seats in the 230-member assembly.
