NEW DELHI: Rajasthan on Friday recorded a turnout of 72.7% and Telangana 67% as voting in these two states came to a close, the Election Commission said.
Voting for 119 constituencies in Telangana began at 7 am, while it started at 8 am for 199 out of 200 seats in Rajasthan.
Voting in Alwar district’s Ramgarh constituency has been postponed due to the death of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Laxman Singh.
Counting for the two states will be held with the states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram on 11 December.
In Rajasthan, there is a direct contest between the BJP and Congress. The BJP, which came to power in 2013 after winning 163 seats.
In the 200-seat Rajasthan Assembly, the Congress is hoping to capitalise on a perceived wave of anti-incumbency against Vasundhara Raje.The police reported a few clashed among supporters, but said polling was largely peaceful.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which won the previous 2014 elections, hopes to come back to power. The party won 63 seats in 2014, and expects to win close to 100 of the 119 seats.
TRS supremo and caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao exuded confidence that his party would come back to power in Telangana with a “huge majority.The Congress is also looking to return to power after it lost in 2014.
