SHIMLA: Henceforth you will not be required to carry your vehicle papers in original along while driving out. Often people come across problems when their vehicle papers viz. Registration Certificate, Driving licence, Insurance Certificate and Pollution Certificate etc are either stolen or misplaced or lost in transit. Problems are also encountered when traffic police officers insist on showing original certificates.
As a great relief to the vehicle owners, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India has issued a Communication No. RT 11038/15/2017 (MVL) dated 19th November 2018 to the Director General of Police, Principal Secretaries and Transport Secretaries of all the states regarding “production of transport related documents in electronic form”.
The Communication pertaining to amendment in Rule 139 of the Central Motor Vehicles rules, states that the citizens can produce transport related documents in electronic form as well. The police officers are instructed not to harass or put citizens to inconvenience due to non production of such documents in physical form.
One can save the soft copy of all such documents in Digilocker/sprivahan. And in the hour of need one can open his Digilocker to show the documents to the concerned officer. The facility will also enable citizens preserve the documents.
