Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday dissolved state Assembly under the relevant provisions in Jammu and Kashmir constitution.
SRINAGAR: Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah may team up to form a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir along with the Congress, sources said today.
National Conference patron and Srinagar member of Parliament, Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said he was willing to sit down with the Congress and the PDP for government formation in the interest of the people of the state.
Senior PDP leader and former Finance Minister Altaf Bukhari is the frontrunner for the post of chief minister.In June this year, the BJP pulled out of its shaky alliance with PDP and imposed governor’s rule on the state.
Sources said the National Conference will extend outside support to a Congress-PDP government.Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone has also staked claim for government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Top NC leaders from all three regions of Jammu and Kashmir have been invited to a core group meeting scheduled for Thursday in Srinagar. The issue of government formation will be discussed.
In a letter to Governor Satya Pal Malik, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti said, Peoples Democratic Party is the largest party in the state assembly having a strength of 29.
Mufti said the Raj Bhavan in the winter capital Jammu strangely had not received her letter that was faxed. She said she was trying to contact the Governor over telephone.
In the 87-member House, the BJP has 25 MLAs, all from Jammu, and claims the support of Kashmir Valley-based Peoples Conference which has two MLAs.
The PDP has 28 MLAs, NC 15 and Congress 12, which places them comfortably above the majority mark of 44.State Congress president Ghulam Ahmad Mir said that the Congress had floated a similar idea in 2014.
