Single Phase Telangana Assembly Election’s Voting On December 07

The party-wise strength in the 120-member Telangana Legislative Assembly before its dissolution was – TRS 82, Congress 17, AIMIM 7, BJP 5, TDP 3, Vacant 2, and CPI, CPI(M), Independent and nominated members.

HYDERABAD: The 119-member assembly was dissolved on September 6 on the recommendation of the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government.

The main opposition Congress forged an electoral pact with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS) and the Communist Party of India.

According to poll survey TRS would only win a dismal 42 seats, while the Grand Alliance which includes the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) and CPI besides the Congress and TDP, would bag 64.

TRS party president and caretaker Rao on October 16 announced a ‘partial manifesto’ for the forthcoming elections and revealed key promises of the party.

KCR informed that the TRS manifesto committee has received as much as 300 demands from the public and during the last four years of ruling the state.

KCR also launched a scathing attack on the central government and said that the Centre has given nothing to the state projects like Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya.

Congress leaders have charged the K Chandrasekhar Rao government with failure to honour pre-election promises and seeking to perpetuate family rule.

The model of a ‘grand alliance’ in Telangana is also playing out at the national level. In fact, Chandrababu Naidu is also meeting MK Stalin in order to mobilise a united opposition.

In Telangana, the Bharatiya Janata Party in its election manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections has proposed a free distribution of one lakh cows every year.The manifesto committee of the party earlier proposed the regulating sale of liquor.

The BJP will also offer free transportation to those taking up ‘Deeksha’ (religious code of behaviour) for visiting temples, including Sabarimala.The BJP’s manifesto committee also proposed to waive off tax on petrol and diesel.

In the 2014 assembly election, the TRS bagged 63 seats with a vote-share of 34 per cent and the Congress 21 seats with 25 per cent vote-share.

The TDP had fought the poll then in alliance with the BJP. TDP won 15 seats with 14.5 per cent vote-share and the BJP five with seven per cent vote-share.
