Chhattisgarh Assembly Polls: BSP Chief Mayawati Ties Up With Ajit Jogi’s Janta Party

Chhattisgarh is scheduled to go to polls later this year along with Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Telangana.

NEW DELHI: BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday announced that her party will contest the upcoming state elections in alliance with Ajit Jogi’s Janta Congress.

According to the seat-sharing agreement, Mayawati said, BSP will contest 35 seats and Janata Congress 55 seats.The BSP also said that if their alliance comes to power, Ajit Jogi will be the CM.

Ajit Jogi, the first chief minister of Chhattisgarh, had formed his party after being expelled from the Congress in 2016.The BJP has been in power in Chhattisgarh for the last 15 years with Raman Singh as the Chief Minister.

A joint statement issued by both Mayawati and Jogi said that “there has been unbalanced development in Chhattisgarh in the last 15 years.

Jogi, in support with BSP alliance, said, “BJP has been in power in Chhattisgarh for the past 15 years. Mayawati and my party will together definitely stop the BJP.”

The BSP has also released a list of 22 candidates in Madhya Pradesh where the talks for a tie up with the Congress have been going on for a while now.

The new alliance is also seen as part of Mayawati’s 2019 plan where she wants to expand her party’s reach beyond Uttar Pradesh.

The Chhattisgarh Assembly has 90 seats and the Election Commission is yet to announce the poll dates.The Congress and BSP had been in talks with each other for a few months but Mayawati was not happy with the number of seats it was being offered.
