BHOPAL: Congress president Rahul Gandhi launched his party’s election campaign on Monday. He took part in a roadshow which started from Lalghati Chowk.
The 18-kilometer-long roadshow will conclude at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd’s Dussehra Maidan.Security has been tightened in the city and an extra force of 1,500 policemen have already been deputed.
The Congress sparred with the ruling BJP over posters that have been put up greeting Gandhi as a “Shiv bhakt” or devotee of Lord Shiva.’
Gandhi, who will arrive in the MP capital at 12.45 pm on Monday will embark on the roadshow in a secured bus from the Lalghati Circle 25 minutes later.
The Congress president is just back from a Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a pilgrimage to honour Lord Shiva.He will also address a meeting of Congress workers, which will be open to the public, and will leave in the evening.
This is the first visit of Gandhi to the state capital after the appointment of Kamal Nath as party state president.The visit of Gandhi will boost the morale of party workers in the poll-bound state.
“Rahul Gandhi is coming to Madhya Pradesh with a wave of change,” said Congress Campaign Committee chairman Jyotiraditya Scindia.
