Fuel Prices Continue To Touch New Height, Karnataka Cuts Fuel Prices By Rs 2 Per Litre

Petrol and diesel prices continue to remain on rampage as they further increased by 15 paisa and 6 paisa per litre on Monday.

NEW DELHI: In the four metro cities, petrol is the most expensive in Mumbai.In Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, petrol was being sold at Rs 89.44 per litre, Rs 82.06 per litre, Rs 83.91 per litre and Rs 85.31 per litre, respectively.

Diesel prices per litre, on the other hand, were Rs 73.78 (Delhi), Rs 75.63 (Chennai), Rs 78.00 (Kolkata) and Rs 78.33 (Mumbai).Petrol and diesel prices have been rising almost every day in the past one month.

Petrol prices crossed Rs. 90 in at least 11 towns in Maharashtra today. Fuel prices are the highest in Maharashtra and the lowest in Andaman and Nicobar.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy today announced that his government is reducing the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs. 2.

The announcement comes in the wake of political pressure building against Kumaraswamy after Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal governments reduced fuel prices.

As petrol prices crossed Rs. 90 is as many as 11 cities in Maharashtra, the HD Kumaraswamy government ordered prices in Karnataka to be slashed.

Last week, after money for farm loan waivers was dispatched to banks, HD Kumaraswamy had ordered the Karnataka finance department to look into whether petrol and diesel prices in the state could be reduced.

Speaking at NDTV’s youth conclave, Baba Ramdev said, “If the government lets me, and gives some relief in tax, I can give petrol diesel to India at Rs 35-40 per litre. Fuel needs to brought under GST and not the 28 per cent rate.”
