In Delhi, the prices of petrol and diesel saw a 14 paise hike each to Rs 80.87/litre and Rs 72.97/litre, respectively.
KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that the state government has decided to reduce the fuel prices by Re 1 per litre.
The prices continued to soar on Tuesday, as in Mumbai petrol and diesel have touched a new high of Rs 88.26 and Rs 77.47 per litre respectively.
In Chennai and Kolkata, the price of petrol was hiked by 14 paise per litre. The revised price was recorded Rs 84.05 per litre and Rs 83.75 per litre in Chennai and Kolkata, respectively.
Diesel price in Chennai increased by 15 paise per litre taking the rate to Rs 77.13 per litre. In Kolkata, it increased by 14 paise per litre to Rs 75.82 per litre.
Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh reduced the fuel prices by Rs 2.5 per litre and Rs 2 per litre, respectively.The announcement comes after India witnessed a nationwide strike in the wake of growing petrol costs and weakening rupee.
Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has said the state is considering options to reduce duties on fuel.As a result of rising global crude oil prices and a falling rupee, petrol and diesel prices continue to be at all-time record highs in India.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo alleged that the BJP-led central government hiked excise duty nine times, even when the global crude prices were falling.
Mamata Banerjee’s party had not participated in the ‘Bharat Bandh’ protests organised by the Congress-led Opposition on Monday. She said “in principle” her party supported the issue but not the Bandh itself.
