NEW DELHI: The petrol price surged by 12 paise from 80.38 per litre and the hike in diesel price was 10 paise from Rs 72.51 per litre in Delhi.
The Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) make the revised prices effective from 6 am on September 9, 2018.Prices also continued to increase in other metro cities.
In Mumbai, the prices of petrol and diesel are Rs 87.89 per litre diesel Rs 77.09 per litre respectively.The prices of both petrol and diesel have been at their record high levels for around a week now.
In Kolkata, the price of petrol has been increased to Rs 83.39 per litre while the diesel price has gone up to Rs 75.46 per litre. Similarly, petrol is being sold for Rs 83.66 per litre in Chennai and the diesel retail price is Rs 76.75per litre.
The depreciating value of the Indian rupee and hiked crude oil prices continues to haunt the commuters in the national capital and other states across the country.
The BJP-led government has been under fire over the fuel price hike. The Congress has given a call for a nation-wide shut-down on Monday to protest the increasing petroleum prices.
Union Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday blamed strengthening of the US dollar, non-fulfilment of the commitment made by OPEC countries regarding additional oil production and the crisis in Iran, Venezuela and Turkey for the rise in prices of crude oil.
Other opposition parties including the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) have extended their support to the nation-wide bandh.
