Renowned scientist Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, who is known for his R&D in missile systems and contribution in aerospace technologies.
NEW DELHI: The Government on Saturday appointed renowned scientist Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy as the Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Dr. Reddy was holding charge as the Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister and also as Director General of the strategic missiles division.
The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet approved Reddy’s appointment for a period of two years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders.
The post of DRDO chief was lying vacant for the past three months after S Christopher completed his term in May this year. Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra was then given additional charge of DRDO.
Dr. Reddy is a graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) in Andhra Pradesh and is widely recognised for his expertise in navigation science.Dr. Reddy has played a significant role in the development of the country’s missiles systems and their launches.
He is the first defence scientist working in India to receive the Silver Medal of Royal Aeronautical Society, UK, and has also been selected for the first IEI (India) and IEEE (USA) joint award for Engineering Excellence.
