DMK Patriarch Karunanidhi Recovering Well, Heavy Security Outside Hospital

A five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr Karunanidhi was recovering from a long illness when he contracted the infection and developed a fever. 

CHENNAI: DMK president M. Karunanidhi’s health suffered a setback on Sunday evening but with medical support his vital signs became normal by night.

He continues to receive medical assistance at Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet, Chennai.DMK working president M.K. Stalin and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi are in the hospital.

Earlier in the day, State Ministers, including Law Minister C.Ve. Shanmugam, accompanied the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to the hospital.

The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam arrive at the hospital to enquire about Mr.Karunanidhi’s health.”I have just met him in Kauvery Hospital.

He is better and recovering well,” Mr. Palaniswami said.The AIADMK leaders also praised him as a leader of Tamils.The security was beefed up both at the hospital and Karunanidhi’s residence on Sunday.

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday visited the ailing DMK president M Karunanidhi at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai. He was accompanied by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Karunanidhi’s son MK Stalin.

Karunanidhi’s wife, his son and DMK’s working president MK Stalin and daughter Kanimozhi, Rajya Sabha MP, are at the hospital for last three days.

Hospital sources also say that Karunanidhi has moved his hands and legs and also opened his eyes after he was admitted in the ICU.

Karunanidhi’s supporters outside the Kauvery Hospital urge the hospital staff to update them about the leader’s health condition.

The DMK patriarch, who is suffering from urinary tract infection, was also visited by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu. Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’ Brien met MK Stalin and Kanimozhi.

Actor-politician Kamal Haasan, whom Mr Karunanidhi invited to his party 15 years ago, also visited the DMK chief.NCP President Sharad Pawar meets DMK leader MK Stalin and Kanimozhi at Kauvery hospital in Chennai.

Representatives of Sri Lanka President, Maithripala Sirisena, visited Kauvery hospital to meet DMK supremo. A letter from Sirisena is also submitted to MK Stalin wishing speedy recovery of the veteran leader.
